Projects

Many of our projects focus on the use of geospatial technologies and how to use those technologies to explore issues of social and environmental justice of interest to students.

These technologies allow the visualization, manipulation, and analysis of a wide set of data including ecological, sociological, and demographic data. Geographic Information System technologies are one of the fastest growing fields in business, education, and industry (second only to bio-technology).

We are engaging our students in Participatory Action Research to improve their communities while learning the science and technology skills to investigate their own questions. In our project students collect data and evaluate the ecological services that an urban ecosystem provides to the community. In doing this students learn about the pollution benefits and the economic value of their urban ecosystem
